September 28, 2011Camellia continues to prove that he is an urban bald eagle. On Sept 24 and 25 he stayed in the area of the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River between I-64 and Military Hwy (Rt13), except for a very brief afternoon flight to Indian River on Sept 25. About 7:00am Sept 26 he returned to Pembroke Lake off Independence Blvd in Virginia Beach where he spent most of the day. About 6:oopm he flew across the Lynnhaven River to Thalia and spent the night. As of this satellite map at 6:00am Sept 27, Camellia is perched in a tree at Steinhilber’s Resturant in Thalia – white arrow. Click maps to enlarge.

Looks like Camellia has exquisite taste!
I live in the Kempsville section in Virginia Beach at the corner of Indian River and Kempsville Roads. I quite often see two of the the most fantastic creatures using the air currents to just float through the sky. Are you familiar with any eagles living in this part of Virginia Beach. There are always two…..thank you.
Response – I am not aware of an eagle nest in that immediate area, but as we have all seen eagles wander widely so the ones you are seeing could be from almost anywhere in this area.

I see one, and once two, near Trashmore frequently. I don’t suppose it’s NC but I like to think it, or they, may be one, or two, of the birds I watched grow up in the Garden.

Hi Roy – There are eagles somewhere in the Kempsville area off the Elizabeth River. They can be seen on a regular basis at Kemp Lake at Witchduck and Greenwich. Perhaps they wander over Trashmore from time to time.
Camellia has great taste in seafood. I like Steinhilbers too! LOL I saw two bald eagles flying over the ball field on Paramont in Indian River this week. I thought one of them might have been Camellia as it looked as if one had an antenna on its back. But I was driving and couldn’t stop to get a better look. I love your comment about him being an “urban” eagle!
I’m happy to hear some are in that area, Reese. I’ll take a look. Maybe the folks in Pleasant Point are starting to get little nervous seeing me slowly driving through so often.
