After spending weeks on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, Camellia has returned home. He visited Norfolk Botanical Garden on July 11, 12 and spent the night of July 14 on the entrance road (left side as entering before entrance booth). On July 14 and 15 he made a round-trip to Smithfield, then returned to Lake Whitehurst. As of this map at 1:00am July 17 (today) he is across Lake Whitehurst from NBG at Lilac Court in Camellia Shores – white arrow. Click maps to enlarge.

How fitting that he would be sitting at Camellia Shores but do wish he would stay away from runways. If Azalea could show him the way to the catfish farm and her easy pickings. She’s a very savvy bird.

They sure do travel!! (the kids, I mean).. So is the Garden just directly south of where his last ‘spot’ is? I’m with Kathy…. get away from that airport!! But really neat to see him visit. Thanks Reese. Take care, hope you can make it to the triplets’ release.
Thank you so much for keeping us posted on Azalea and Camellia. It is so exciting that Camellia has returned *home*. On WCV FB page someone posted that eaglets “imprint” night sky at around 19 days old. If so, would this be the *GPS* system an eagle uses to find it’s way home. Sorry I missed you on eagle cam.
Response – Lynn, not sure about “19 days” or “night sky”, but it is known that they imprint on their natal territory within their first two weeks, and that is why we see Azalea and Camellia return to Norfolk no matter where they wander off to.

Oh, that IS exciting! Just stay away from the airport runways! Sure wish one or all of our Rock Stars had a transmitter. As you say, since they imprint on their natal area within their first two weeks, seems likely we will hear of them in the future at the Gardens. Wonder if Dad knows who his babies are? Who knows. Just wonderful to hear.
I wonder if he was the juvi Eagle I saw this morning flying from the old duck feeding area heading towards Miller Store Rd. this morning at around 7-7:15am. Hmmm…wish I had fired off some “distant” shots now instead of just watching it fly away. Oh well…nice to hear he’s in the area.
This is truly exciting news. Thank you for telling us about Camelia being in the gardens. I am still looking forward to another year of watching eagles at NBG. This has truly been a life changing experience for me. Thanks to all of you who are faithful to your callings.
So nice to hear Camelia came back home for a visit. Wonder if he saw dad and hung out with him for awhile. Reese, thanks for always updating us on Camelia and Azalea.
