Camellia left the farm field behind Charity United Methodist Church before 11:00am Sunday May 22, and flew north to the Virginia Beach City owned Red Wing Golf Course. He was still there as of this satellite map at 6:00pm May 24 – white data point. There is a bald eagle nest with two eaglets at Red Wing, and Camellia was within 100 yards of that nest at 1:00am May 23 and again May 24. This is my photo of Camellia about 10:15am Sunday morning being chased by a crow about the time he left and flew to Red Wing GC. There were no other eagles with Camellia.

Thanks, Reese. I didn’t realize just how much I depend on these updates until I didn’t have one. Such a wonderful picture of our boy! So good to know he is still flying after a year (ish)!

I had a terrific experience yesterday. I got on the 168 bypass at Dominion Blvd. As I approached the Oak Grove Lake on my left, a juvenile eagle flew over the bypass right in front of me. I had to laugh. He was obviously just learning to fly! When I was on my way home, I crossed the Northwest River, again on the Bypass and another young eagle flew over. This one had much more experience flying! I was wondering if it might even be one of the eagles from our nest maybe from last year?? Then I looked for the juvie at the lake. I didn’t see him until I got off the exit onto I-64 and he flew over again, trying to land on a cell phone tower! He was hilarious. Wings tucked in, then flapping, feet out to land. An incredible sight! Hopefully I will see Azalea or Camellia one day flying nearby. Thanks for updating us on them!
I really enjoy seeing the photos of Camellia …..I do appreciate all the work of your tracking map images but the photos bring that dot on the map to life and remind us there is a “real” juvie out there growing and still gaining eagle skills.

Since Camellia and Azealea are so often in the same place, it makes one wonder if their nestmates also are. Have their been any sightings of ND and NE or Azealea’s nestmates?
