Mr. Lukei I’ve been wondering if female eagles can send messages to their bodys to stop production of a developing egg. I ask because Dad has mated with every female many times this season and no egg, but by the same token there has been a lot of intruders and disturbances which would make the nest appear unsafe to lay an egg. I realize there are variables as to whether or not mating is effective but I am very curious if it is possible that there is more to it? Thanks for all that you do and for the fantastic zooming efforts!
Response – Breeding is a seasonal matter that is triggered by hormonal changes. Just as those changes have a beginning, they also have an end. They are near or at the end of that breeding period now.
