8:15 am 11/10. Very lage immature eagle spotted over the house. This bird had quite a bit of white speckling on the tail. Is Cami back at Great Neck?
Response – Must be another eagle – Camellia still in Sussex County
Isn’t there a great deal of danger associated with an eagle being near a landfill? Wouldn’t the noise and potential human presence be enough to deter him? Thanks for all the fantastic updates and for giving us the opportunity to learn! 🙂
Response – Eagles are drawn to these landfills by the activities of other birds such as gulls and vultures. Not much way to deter them from going there.
Reese, Has there been a study of what eagles eat at the landfills? Are they feeding on garbage being dumped, or on other animals attracted to the landfill?
Response – Most likely feeding on other birds like gulls.
