Eagles like to feed early in the morning. If you want to capture images of the action, you have to be there. Here are a few photos of this mornings action of KE getting fed. Not the best images because of thick heat haze and the distance, but you will get the idea. At 6:45am KE was sitting on the boat lift of the property owner where her nest is located screaming loudly to be fed. The adult female was in her favorite lone pine on Cheswick Lane. She flew and went out of sight, but returned a few minutes later with a fish and sat on the top on a boat shed across from the nest tree (400 yards from me – I was at the boat launch on Cheswick). KE flew to the boat shed and was given a piece of the fish. KE then got up and flew with the fish for a couple minutes, then landed next to the adult and ate the fish. The adult flew off and after finishing the fish, KE flew to a tree branch in the shade (took a few minutes to find her). All photos copyright Reese F Lukei Jr. Click on photos to enlarge.

Reese, this is a super nice sequence, – story and pics. Thanks for showing us a glimpse of KE’s morning. I bet she was so proud flying around with that fish in her talons.
Sounds just like mornings up here at my local nest! The hot daytime temps do motivate both eagles and humans to get it done real early.
Always love your posts!
Sweet picture story!! They eat early then look for, and find a shady tree! Thanks for being out there Reese.
Glad you’re seeing your local eagles Mag!
This was a great story! Wonder why she took the fish and flew around with it and then came back to her mom?? Interesting. Looking forward to reading more about KE! Thanks for the pictures and the story.
Great pictures, great story. Reminds me of another female youngster who had Dad wrapped around her talon. Thank you so much.
