Bald eagle banded with purple leg band “MB” remains near Montauk, NY out on the eastern end of Long Island as of August 3, 2015. These photos were taken by Laura Clark. Laura states “My family and I observed MB yesterday (Aug 2) and again today (Aug 3) at the same location where she was spotted and photographed by Mr. Schell, Montauk County Park. Today she was joined by a second juvenile bald eagle! When we first observed her today (8/3) she was eating a large fish; she dropped the fish when she flew to a nearby piece of driftwood and the second eagle swooped in and took off with it.”
MB was banded in Norfolk, VA on June 12 (see earlier post on this site) and has been at Montauk County Park since at least July 4th. For those of us who do not live on Long Island here is a map of the eastern end where MB is being seen. Laura sent a photo of MB flying out over Long Island Sound on August 3. Many thanks to Laura for giving permission to use her photographs and for she and her family keeping an eye out for MB.
