May 28, 2012Here are a few photos of Camellia today as he soars over Buckner Farm off S. Rosemont Rd in Virginia Beach. That is right where the satellite data shows he has been for the past four days. There are four ponds in the Buckner Farm neighborhood. Camellia was sitting in a loblolly pine in a row of trees off Storm Bird Loop but flew as soon as I arrived. Camellia is molting into his subadult III (3-year old) plumage. Several Osprey also soaring overhead. And as a bonus an adult bald eagle landed in one of the pines. Photos copyright of Reese F Lukei Jr.

Beautiful thank you for sharing. A great catch on this Memorial Weekend and a fitting salute to all of our Service people. The mature eagle is definitely not one of Dad’s paramour this year (smile) – beautiful plummage and color beak.

Soaring as the great Eagle he is becoming should!! Looks a bit ragged around the edges, but I know he’s fine and just having some “wear and tear”, as well as molting… GREAT to see him. The adult it looking good, whoever it may be!! Glad you got out and about and got to photograph one of “ours”!! Happy Memorial Day Reese, and thank you for your service to our nation!
Then I think that WAS Camillia I saw on May 21! I was in the parking lot at Lynnhaven and Princess Anne and stood there for over ten minutes watching a bird soar above – trying to determine if it was a juvenile eagle. It was too high up to see any antenna, and soaring slowing from west to eastly, wings flat, no wobble. Finally flew out of sight! WOW!
