Azalea Returns to Kings Grant in Va Beach

Azalea stayed in Virginia Beach on Feb 24 and 25 wandering from Kings Grant in Little Neck to Chesopian Colony just to the east. She was on Kings Grant Lake the morning and afternoon of Feb 25 (when Duane and Shelly captured their photographs) and spent the night near Quimby Rd and Kings Grant Rd. After spending much of the day in Chesopian Colony she flew to a very familiar neighborhood in Witchduck at the end of Richardson Rd and stayed overnight Feb 26 at Zamani Ct where she has spent many nights. About 10:00am Feb 26 she headed north back to the Peninsula and Harwood’s Mill Reservoir then to Poquoson River where she was at midnight last night Feb 27 in the Riverhaven neighborhood – white data point.

IS THERE A REASON THAT THE JUVENILES LOOK MUCH BIGGER THAN THE ADULTS.EVEN THEIR WINGS LOOK MUCH WIDER.
Response – The juveniles are a bit larger, at least their wing feathers are longer. You can see the difference as they begin to molt, and the slightly shorter primary and secondary wing feathers grow in. Since they only molt a few feathers at a time it gives their wings a jagged look.
