One month ago today on April 18, 2011 Dr Bryan Watts and Dr Mitchell Byrd discovered the first ever documented 4-chick bald eagle nest in Virginia during their annual survey of bald eagle nests and relavent productivity. The nest is located in Hopewell on Bailey’s Creek off the James River. The two of them flew over the nest again today May 18, 2011 and Dr Watts took this photographic image of the 4 eaglets on the nest while flying above the nest at about 300 feet at 100 mph!! Dr Watts states “The brood looks really great.”

Wonderful update. I’ve wondered and wondered how they were doing. Thank you for keeping us informed. They look great.
Thanks for the update! Glad all is seeming to go well for these FOUR eaglets and parents. Think of them often since you brought them to our attention. 🙂 Great to hear all appears to be going well for them.
How absolutely wonderful that they are thriving and how thrilling for you all in the copter bird to be able to witness this. Thanks so much for sharing the photo and update and all that you all do.
That’s wonderful! Thanks for these amazing photos of them!
Thank you for this update. Have been watching your blog waiting for your next post. Thank you.
Four eaglets and a beautiful nest.
What great news! it’s so good to know that all 4 are continuing to thrive.
WOW!!!!!
Thanks for the update. The parent eagles must be exhausted!!! That’s a big brood to take care of.
They all look wonderful. Maybe they’ll be friends with a couple of our Norfolk babies! Thanks for the great picture.
Thank you so much for this update. Really wonderful to see.
They do look great. What busy parents and what a full nest. I wonder what kind of tree that is and how high up they are? It’s good to have an update. Great photograph!
Response – Tree is a scarlet oak. Nest about 70 feet high just below crown of the tree. See post on April 21.
Thanks for the update. Wow!! They are getting big. Is this nearby the “will be” release of the eaglets?
That is so impressive! Wow…those parents must have been quite busy trying to keep that brood fed! 🙂
Thank you Reese for getting this photo up. 100 mph– whew! And a 4-chick nest in my lifetime– what a gift!
I had been searching online for any updated info on this nest. Thank you for posting. Considering all the saddness this season, this is wonderful news to know they are doing well!
Reese, thank you so much for the update. I’m been wondering how they’ve been doing. I’m so happy they are doing so well.
Thanks for the update wonder to see such a full nest. The parents need to add a room lol
Thank you so much for the beautiful picture and the update on these 4 eaglets, Reese.
I am so thrilled to see these guys. I am so happy they survived those storms. They look so very beautiful and big. Eagles and Owls are my favorite predators. I have been so lucky.
I have seen 2 saw whet owls. They are so tiny and so adorable. I’ll bet the eaglets parents are wore out keeping up with these guys. LUV UM!!
Thank you for the update and the terrific picture of them. They look very healthy. Its amazing to think that the parents could keep up with the demands that four of them must have. Absolutely incredible! Any plans to check this same nest next year and see if there is, once again, four eaglets?
Loving it. Another eagle pair to watch. I wished I was retired so I could watch more of them.
Thank you so much for the information.
I think about this family often…I never cease to be amazed at the the gift of perseverance that God planted in His creatures, especially when it comes to raising their young.
Thank you for these great pictures, the bald eagles are a beautiful species
