The bald eagles in Richmond, who are incubating two eggs, had to endure a snow storm last night that left them covered with snow, an indication of just how prepared the eagles are for such weather . When you consider that her internal body temperature is 104-05 F it shows just how well insulated she is. Here is a link to a video that shows the progression of the snow storm and the eagles ability to withstand the storm – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0JB3_9mitw

Wow! Amazing!!!
So awesome! Did Dad relieve her or feed her?
Response – It is my understanding that the male did relieve the female for about 30 minutes during the storm.
Amazing creatures. Thanks for the blogs, very interesting!
I sure hope she never has to go through that again…
Since the NBG cam was down last night I visited some other nests, this being one of them. I saw her when she was completely covered. It was amazing to watch. I never saw her shake off all that snow, thanks for linking to the video. I was glad when I checked in today to see all the snow gone.
Oh, I forgot to ask Reese. That was a great view into the nest bowl before the snow really started coming down. Is that the same kind of view the NBG Eagle cam will have also, IF, there are eggs this season?
Response – The camera at the Richmond nest is mounted directly above the nest. The camera at NBG is mounted above the nest on a branch off to the side, so, no, the view will be different but we should still be able to see the eggs.
Incredible! I remember seeing this when we had snow here at the NBG nest one year. Glad this one didn’t have to endure it for days on end and hopefully, there won’t be any more snow!
