Azalea stayed overnight at Tide Mill Pond in Hampton, VA, then left at 9:00am Aug 22 heading south back to the marsh at the intersection of I-64 and I-664. She just made a brief stop leaving there at 11:00am and flew directly back to the Tidewater Research Station east of Plymouth, NC in Washington County. She flew over the northeast corner of the Great Dismal Swamp NWR at noon, where the hugh fire has been burning for almost a month, and crossed back into North Carolina about 12:30pm and arrived at TRS at 4:00pm. That is about an 80 mile direct flight. As of this map at 6:00am today Aug 25, Azalea is in the overnight communal roost off Gourd Neck Rd – white arrow.

Glad to see Azalea back at the catfish farms. You mentioned she flew over the Great Dismal Swamp, where the fire is; is the Tidewater Research Station in danger from the fires? Thanks again for keeping us updated on their whereabouts.
Response – TRS in no threat from the Dismal Swamp Fire. A couple rivers and Albemarle Sound between TRS and the fire.
Always a pleasure to check in on the young lady. I look forward to the next up-date after the storm to see how she fares. Your efforts are truly appreciated.
I am surprised that she flew over part of the Dismal Swamp. I thought an animal’s natural instincts would be to stay away from fires. She amazes me. I hope she and Camellia are will be safe as the hurricane approaches.
