Bald eagles are opportunists!! Our last satellite map showed that Camellia was at Great Bridge in Chesapeake at 1:00pm May 9. He turned around right there and flew back to Virginia Beach flying by 2:00pm over Munden Point then to Back Bay Landing Road where he made a sharp left turn at 3:00pm flying north to a farm field near the intersection of Charity Neck Rd and Gum Bridge Rd by 4:00pm. He is still there!! Why?? Less than two weeks ago there was major flooding in this region of Virginia Beach from Back Bay because of very strong south winds. The water got so high roads were closed and farm field flooded. When the waters receeded, it left fish stranded in many farm fields. The farm field that Camellia is at has 5 ditches and I have confirmed that all the farm field was under water during the storm period. Camellia was likely on his way back to Colechester Rd when he saw turkey and black vultures feeding on fish stranded in the farm field. Being an opportunist, Camellia had no reason to fly any further – Free fish!! White data point is at 5:oopm May 12.

Cary- Chesapeake- and I spent 5 hours last Sat combing the region.LOL- We saw vultures feasting.
At one point we saw an eagle- so off we went. getting closer meant driving down what looked like a dead end rd. We were met by an angry man- said we trespassers. BTW- inside joke – he was carrying a tin collandar – if he had on his head he could ward off aliens.
No confirmed Cammie tho
Looks like Camellia’s MaMa did not raise no fool! Thanks for all you do Mr Lukei
Enjoy the feast, Camellia!! :-))
Reese, yes indeedy, Rose, Chesapeake and I had quite the adventure last Saturday, the 7th. The man with the colander was on the east side of Colchester Rd., by the way. We also toured the North Bay Campground and made two visits to the Cromwell Produce stand on New Bridge Rd. That stand is about 1100 feet from one of Camellia’s marker’s from last week, but not sure which day. Most of our afternoon (after Cam had returned from N. VB) was spent up in that area, but guess where we were earlier in the day? Eating homemade strawberry pie at a little one-room store at the intersection of Charity Neck and Gum Bridge Rds. Is our timing off, or what? I believe the owner of that store lives directly across Gum Bridge from Camellia’s bonanza field. I’m thinking it’s time for more PIE! (We did see lots of vultures in the fields, but the one I got a close-up of was eating a very large SNAKE!) (AND we spoke to ranger at BBNWR that asked if we knew you!)

All you can eat fish! No reason to leave! Mom and Dad taught their offspring well.
