Azalea left the Witchduck/Thoroughgood area of Virginia Beach early the morning of Jan 3 and flew out over Little Neck and the Lynnhaven River. She then flew directly to Stumpy Lake in Virginia Beach arriving by 9:00am. Later on Jan 3 she flew west almost to I-64 and spent the night near Mount Trashmore II. The morning of Jan 5 she returned to Stumpy Lake and has remained there as of this map at midnight last night Jan 6.
Azalea search update – I went to Stumpy Lake today and did find 5 bald eagles – one adult and 4 juveniles. I was able to see 3 of the juvies well enough to know they were not Azalea, but the 4th juvie was too far out and flying away. There is a new fishing pier that gives a good view of much of the lake. Parking at Salem and Indian River Roads.
