Azalea left Virginia’s Northern Neck last week and headed to Virginia Beach. Her flight path passes over the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Did anyone see her in the gardens last Thursday? If she did stop at the nest, it was a short stopover before continuing south to the North Landing River. The river is channelized in the northern section connecting to the Elizabeth River in Chesapeake via the Intracoastal Waterway. I’ve never been on this section of the river, but from the map it appears undeveloped with lots of marshy habitat (see a photo of the river here).
Sorry for the delay in the Azalea posts. I just found out Reese was out of town this week and unable to post the maps.

🙂 Thank you, Libby! I’m thinking there will be a lot of eyes looking skyward now hoping for a sighting of her.
darn—– I am taking a drive today and just found out the North Landing preserve is closed due to increased iilegle activity and DCR lack of funding to support Operation Stewardship to oversee the area.
Just gonna drive around 🙂
Wish I had a canoe
our girl came home, wonderful, even tho she didn’t stay long, she came home. what a wonderful xmas gift. everyone keep your eyes open, maybe someone will see her, take a picture if you can and i will do the same.Hey,everyone our ‘ms.diva’ came home. thanks again for all the great up dates. merry xmas everyone.
Juvie was spotted by son on his way to work in the “general” area she is reported to be in. He said what caught his eye was a “flash” coming from tree. I went out where he saw bird and saw what had to be same bird. Also saw that same “flash”. Area was a landfill about 10 miles from where Libby reports her to be as I would go not as she would go. Got some pictures but cant get close enough to get a good ID picture due to where it is and no area to pull off road. May have been her. May have been another but there is a juvie in the area. Will have to keep eye on area. Maybe she “wandered” over that way since she does seem to like landfills. Only she knows for sure since pictures I got are from a distance. Looks like her to me but I am no “expert”.
Glad that she made it close to home at Christmas. Thanks for the update. Helen
Been out in my back yard trying to turn it into a gourmet land fill fit for a Diva. Glad she is visiting us. Like the link to the area Libby posted. Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to all.
